What to Expect
Running the Jatun Yacu river in a duckie boat with our company is unique for many reasons. First is the experience you will get by simply being in a inflatable kayak. Unlike running the river in a raft, the duckie provides a more personalized experience because you are in control of your trip. The duckie boat is a happy medium between a kayak and a raft. It provides the thrill of being closer to the water and thus every maneuver is greater and more intense, but also provides the safety and comfort of a raft.
Since you are in the boat with just the guide, you can be as adventurous or relaxed as you want by telling the guide you want to hit big waves and curves or by asking to avoid them. By the end of the experience, you will feel as though you made a friend on the trip which adds value and memory to your experience.

The beauty of the Jatun Yacu and Iluculin rivers that you see on this trip is unparalleled. The size of these rivers is not only impressive, but the views available all day long will leave you with a magical feeling. You will be surrounded by lush Amazonian jungle, hear the sounds of the birds only found in this region, see exotic flowers and plants, and marvel at the jungle covered mountains in the distance.
Finally, after stopping to have a homemade lunch in the Kichwa community of Shandia, you will gain an even deeper appreciation for the culture and nature in this region because you get to see how people here are fully connected to their natural environment. This is a special and unique intercultural experience that our trip provides.
