General information

Kayak Ecuador’s whitewater sports internships are adapted towards undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Tourism, Hospitality, Communications, Adventure Sports Management, and other related fields. Moreover, internships are especially geared to individuals with an interest in whitewater sports and leisure; experience in rafting and/or kayaking is considered a plus, and to students with Spanish proficiency and English knowledge.

Additionally, having an interest in assisting a rural sector with a community development project. Furthermore, the internship includes full training weeks where interns will go to the following tours to have an insight of whitewater and jungle adventure excursions offered by Kayak Ecuador: Full Day Rafting in the Jatun Yacu river, visit to Yani lagoon, Full Day Rafting in the Jondachi river, Gran Cañón del Jondachi trek, Half Day Rafting in the Anzu river, Safari Tour and swimming day in the Calmito Yacu river.

INTERN IN ADVENTURE MANAGEMENT

The intern in Adventure Tourism Management is a full-time internship taking place in the Napo Amazonian province of Ecuador, Tena city. The focus of the internship is to acquire experience not only in the field of whitewater sports and leisure, but also in the field of Tourism, Hospitality, Adventure Sports Management and local community engagement. 

Your main responsibilities as an intern in Kayak Ecuador involve dynamic, miscellaneous and fun tasks. For instance, interacting with customers while developing skills in general customer service, supporting Kayak Ecuador’s staff in logistics and administrative tasks while guiding customer groups in outdoor activities. Learning whitewater sports gear terminology and related aspects of adventure sports and Amazon tourism. Collaborate in writing an entry for Kayak Ecuador’s blog. Also, you will engage and assist in a local community development project that you will promote together with the other interns.

Qualifications

+Education field in Tourism and/ or Hospitality, Communications, Adventure Sports Management, outdoor sports and leisure, and other related education field.
+Intermediate/Advanced Spanish and English (other language is considered a plus).
+Interested and passionate about outdoor activities, especially adventure and/or whitewater sports, and tourism.
+Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
+Comfortable interacting with people.
+Photography and/or social media knowledge is considered a plus.
+Experience in either rafting and/or kayaking is preferred but not mandatory.
+Lots of energy and a desire to learn.

Work conditions

Office and field work.

Time commitment

Time Commitment:
40 hours per week, sometimes involving weekends.

Remuneration

The internship is an unpaid position*.
(Kayak Ecuador will recognize the main responsibilities of the intern with a certificate).
*The intern is responsible for travel, food and personal expenses during the entire internship.

Investment/cost

$150 / week (Including living accommodations for the entire internship, two week full training fees and other program fees)*.
8 weeks internship: $1,200.
*Travel, food and personal expenses are not included.

INTERN GUIDE IN WHITEWATER SPORTS

The intern Guide in Whitewater Sports is a full-time internship taking place in the Napo Amazonian province of Ecuador, Tena city. The focus of the internship is to acquire experience in the field of whitewater sports and leisure, mainly as a whitewater rafting guide. Additionally, gaining expertise in the field of Adventure Sports Management and local community engagement.
 
Your main responsibilities as an intern in Kayak Ecuador involve training, as well as dynamic and miscellaneous tasks. For instance, gaining expertise and instruction in whitewater sports such as rafting during a three week full rafting training in rivers class II, III & IV, including necessary equipment (rafts, paddles, helmet, lifejacket) and a certified guide during preparation. Moreover, interacting with customers while developing skills in general customer service, supporting Kayak Ecuador’s staff in logistics and administrative tasks while guiding customer groups in outdoor activities; learning whitewater sports gear terminology and taking care of equipment. Also, you will engage and assist in a local community development project that you will promote together with the other interns.

If you do well during the three week full training, Kayak Ecuador might consider you to carry on as a rafting guide and get paid. If not, you will continue with the regular program until the end of the internship.

$275 / week (Including living accommodations, three week full training fees and other program fees)*.
8 weeks internship: $2,200.
